OPINIONS ON AUSTRALIA.
CONAN DOYLE’S IMPRESSIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copj’rlght. Received April 5, 5.5 p.m. London, April 4. Sir A. Conan Doyle, interviewed on his Australian experiences, said public control was a complete failure in Australia. The telephones, telegraphs, railways and post office services were very bad. This was not due to national slackness, because the few things remaining in private hands were extremely good; but the real reason was that employees were able to apply pressure to Labor Governments if the latter disagreed with their demand.?. All those Labor problems are rather dangerous there. ’Sir A. Conan Doyle added that the Spiritualist movement was vigorous among the poorer classes, though not among the professional people.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.
