DREDGING FOR GOLD.

UP-TO-DATE PLANT PROVIDED. By Telegraph—P»es« Association. Hokitika, Last Night. The Rimu Gold-dredging Company’s pontQon was successfully floated this afternoon in the presence of a large assemblage. The pontoon will carry the largest dredge yet erected in the Dominion and is 110 feet long, 50 feet broad, and Bin deep. Its location is Rimu Flat, on the site of the former dredge, which was forced to discontinue operations ow ; ng to the heavy nature of the ground.

The present dredge will be of a powerfu 1 nature and will be electrically driven, the power being derived from Kanieri Lake. The work of erecting the machinery is row being pushed on as expeditiouslv as possible, a large staff being employed. A large area of aurifer ou3 ground is to be worked.
