ATHLETICS.
TOKO SPORTS. The Toko Settlers’ Picnic and Sports Association held their annual gathering on the Toko Domain on Thursday afternoon in ideal weather conditions. The attendance was large, Ijeing thoroughly representative of Stratford and the neighboring districts. During the afternoon orchestral selections were provided by Rogers' orchestra from Stratford. The refreshments and luncheon were dispensed by the stuff of the Stratford Marble Bar. The principal officials were as follows: Chairman, Mr. M. Gernboefer; starter, Mr. A. J. Griffiths; clerk of course, Mr. A. J. Prout; handicapper, Mr. J. T. Kil- ■ patrick; secretary, Mr. M. Urquhart; treasurer, Mr. T. R. Julian; bellman, Mr, G. A. Harris, junr. The prizes, which consisted of valuable trophies, were presented to the winners at the close of the proceedings, by Mr. R. Masters, M.P., patron of the club, who congratulated the club on the success both social and financial, which had attended the annual picnic. Following is the prize-list:— Shool Boys’ Race.—J. Won on the post. Boys’ Four-part Race (local). —A. Boyd 1, E. Chainey 2, A. Downs 3. Mile Bicycle Race (local). —H. Were 1, J. Jones 2. Handicap, mile. —T. Walsh 1, W. Spray 2. The winner was disqualified. Farmers’ Race (local). —C. Walton 1, H. J. Kaye 2.
High Jump.—Parkes and Vaughan tied at sft 2in, the former winning with his handicap of two inches. Committee Race. —R. Burgham 1, Griffiths 2.
Tug-of-War.—Stratford (Robertson’s team) beat Toko. This was-one of the best tussles possible, the teams hanging on the rope for some minutes before Stratford gained the pull. Handicap (440yds).—P. Griffiths 1, J. Jacobsen 2, F. L. Vickers 3.
School Boys’ High Jump. —T. Walter 1, E. MeLellan- 2.
Chain-stepping (ladies).» —Miss Scott 1; (men) J. Rutherford 1. Single Ladies’ Race. —Miss A. Chapman 1, Miss Rodgers 2, Miss Sole 3. Bicycle Race, 2 miles—R. Wheeler 1, F. Townsend 2. The winner ove-lapped the scratch men.
Sheep-guessing, correct live weight, MB’/.lbs—Miss K. Wood (Stratford), T. Fincham, H. Wilmhurst tied with the correct weight. J. Fincham won the draw.
Steeplechase (open).—T. Walker 1, L. Marfell g. A protest entered for not following the course was not upheld, but the protest money was returned. Returned Soldiers’ Race (open). J. W. McKain 1. W. E. Vestey 2.
