ADVERTISING THE BEER.

THE HOUSE FACETIOUS. The member for Lyttelton (Mr. McCombs) asked, with every earnestness before the House rose last week whether the Government, which had prohibited the use of -the word “Anzac” in advertising, would stop the practice of a certain Taranaki brewery firm, which, .it was said, out of compliment to two local Victoria Cross heroes, was labelling its produce V.C. beer. What did the Minister of Justice think about it? “My impression,” said the Hon. E. P. Lee, acidly “is that you are advertising the beer.” (Laughter.) Mr. McCombs declared, severely, that something should be done to prevent this prostitution of the Victoria Cross to such a purpose. He appealed to the Prime Minister. ■Mr. Massey said he was afraid he must agree with his colleague. He remembered a time in the old days when traders welcomed even the mention of the wares on the floor of the House, and sent along oases of champagne and other gifts as an indication of their appreciation. (Laughter.) To do what Mr. McCombs required would mean legislation. The Premier was continuing to handle the matter in a bantering tone, when Mr. McComb®, to bring the incident to a dignified close, interrupted to ask if .the Premier would look into it ? Mr. Massey: Yes. (Loud Laughter.)
