TARANAKI TOURNAMENT. DETAILS OF YESTERDAY’S PLAY. CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL TO-DAY. The Taranaki championship meeting was continued on the New Plymouth Club’s links at Waiwakaiho In boisterous weather yesterdayv The second and third rounds of the championship were disposed of, leaving two pairs tc meet in the semi-finals this morning, while tte final will be played this afternoon. In the second round G. Gudgeon. (Inglewood), the. present Taranaki champion, was beaten by D. H. Butcher (New Plymouth). G. Saunders (Wanganui) accounted for F. S. Johns (New Plymouth), and A. Smith (New Plymouth) beat Jas. Kenny (Te Aroha). G. M. Chong (New Plymouth), who list on Saturday with a fine score, was beaten by Grant Sim (Palmerston North) by the narrow margin of one up. A close match was that between two club champions, C. F. Pulley (Patea) and W. H. Robertshaw (New Plymouth), and after a keen struggle Pulley won on the 20th green. The third round saw F. Quin, G. Saunders, A. Seifert, and A. Smith left in, and some keen games are anticipated to-day to find the champion of this quartette.

The play off for Saturday afternoon’s imejdal match was decided yesterday between G. Thong (New Plymouth), and J. Austin (New Plymouth), and was won by Austin by cne stroke. The play off for the ladies’ putting on Saturday was won by Miss Gilbert, who defeated .Mrs. Butcher. In the play off for men, F. Quin (Elttam) beat Dr. Wade (New Plymouth). There were two handicap 1 matches yesterday—a bogey round in the morning and a medal match in the afternoon. The bogey match was won by F. Quin (Eltham), who, with a handicap of five, finished with the good score of four up. In the medal match A. Smith (New Plymouth) and G. J. Bayley (Hawera) tied with a nett score of 76.
