FALLEN SOLDIERS’ MEMORIAL

ROLL OF HONOR, ST. MARY’S CHURCH. Mr. W. H. Skinner writes: •Sir.—ln connection with the above memorial I have to solicit your help on behalf of the committee who have this work in hand, in securing the names of all those who fell in the recent war, or who died through wounds or sickness whilst on service during that period —191*4-18, and who were members of St. Mary’s congregation, or of those country congregations; that is, members of the Church of England within the parish of St. Mary's. The boundaries of the parish are, roughly, the Henui river to its source on the north, and the Oakura river on the south. These names are required for recording on the memorial. A close inquiry has been made privately, and by means of records already in the church, as to these names, but it is considered most important that no name should be missed in this connection, and it is for this reason that we are asking the assistance of the Press. The names of fifty-two have been sent in by relatives, a list of whom is appended, but there arc other doubtful ones, the uncertainty of which can only be cleared by relatives or close friends. As other churches and congregations have already taken steps with regard to their own special “rolls of honor,” it has been thought advisable to confine the names of those, to bQ placed in St. Mary’s to member? of the various Church of England congregations within St. Mary’s Parish. Apart from this, however, we trust no name will be withheld which, relatives consider should be enrolled on St. Mary’s memorial* As a design—in brass—has been approved, and the work will be put in hand at once, the committee ask that names- should be forwarded immediately, either to the Rev. F. G. Harvie, or myself. ROLL OF HONOR. Frank Grimmer. James Johnson Falconer. Robert David Kidd, Guthrie Kidd. Ernest Alfred Billing. Frederick Roland Billing. Ernest Eady Gibbons.
