An Aucklander writes froni Los Angeles : A curious outcome of the movie picture business is the necessity of keeping a competent oculist on every s a of producers. So violent are the artificial lights used in movie photography for inside wor t k, and so necessary is it for the players to show a natural appearance, that eye-trouble is the rule among the stars. A gdod many movie people have entirely lost their sight in this way. The rewards, however, for a reasonably good pantomifinst are so great that blindness is risked. Scientists are at work devising means less harsh to assure the clearness necessary to the successful film.
