PATEA BY-ELECTION.
. - MR. DIXON AT WAVERLEY. The Reform candidate, Mr. Dixon, addressed a laxjge meeting at Waverley. In introducing Mr. Dixon, Mr. Adlam referred to the candidate's past work as a member of the Wanganui Education Board, and referred to the fact that Mr. Dixon was Mayor for the third term of what he regained as one of the most progressive towns in the Dominion. Mr. Dixon received', a splendid hearing, covering much of the matter which he dealt with at Mokoia. At the conclusion Mr. Dixon answered a few questions, after which it was moved by Mr. Middleton carried unanimously: “That the candidate be thanked for his able address, and we have every confidence in him as a fit and proper person to represent Waverley in Parliament.” A strong committee to further Mr. Dixon's candidature was formed at the close of an enthusiastic meeting. MR. MORRISON’S CAMPAIGN. A general committee meeting of Mr. Morrison’s (the Liberal candidate) supporters was held on Wednesday night. The meeting received reports from the delegates to the Patea conference, which were highly satisfactory. Marked enthusiasm was apparent, and the committee are making arrangements to ensure the best results on election day. Mr. Morrison, the Liberal candidate for the Patea seat, opened his campaign at Mokoia on Thursday night, when he addressed a good attendance of electors. Mr. A. Main. J.P.; occupied the chair, and congratulated the speaker on the sportsmanlike way in which he had contested the lr>st election. Mr. Morrison, who was .well received, gave an interesting and able address, which was listened to with marked attention. _ Mr. Morrison dealt with vari - ous masters, including income tax, soldiers’ settlement, meat, wool and dairy produce conditions, land policy, public works, education, etc. At the conclusion a number of questions were satisfatorily answered, and the candidate was accorded a vote of thanks on the motibn of Messrs.
