FURTHER DETAILS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyright. Sydney, March 24. Eloquent tributes to Mr. Brookfield are reaching Mr. Dooley from various States, the Governor, Messrs. Hughes and Theodore, the Lord Mayor and his political opponents. Adelaide, March 24. Constable Kinsella, at whom Tomayoff fired first, said he thanked Mr. Brookfield for saving his life. The Russian fired at Kinsella in the refreshment room, the bullet grazing Mr. Brookfield’s arm. Mr. Brookfield borrowed a revolver and rushed at Tomayoff. After the scuffling Kinsella saw the former propped into position saying, “I am done, he has shot me in the stomach.’ •‘The former landlord of Tomayoff, at Broken Hill, says the latter left on Tuesday evening with all his belongings, including a mattress, going to Adelaide for work. The woman whom he was keeping company died, and the Russian had been despondent since. He displayed a streamer on his bedroom wall ‘tong live the Federated Industrial Soviet Republic of Russia,” also photos of Trotsky, Lenin, and 1? Independent Workers of the World. The prisoner, when asked by the police if he had any statement to make, said: ‘‘Yes. I shot everybody because I was afraid of two men with knives and pbison in the train who wanted to kill me. They catch hold of my arms. Every time I see a man I shoot him.” Mr Brookfield, en route to the hospital. was asked why be took risks, and replied: “I took.it for the women; I am nothing.”—Aus.-N.Z.
