AWAKINO DOG TRIALS.

FIRST DAY'S EVENTS. The Awakino dog trials opened on Tuesday. Showery weather prevailed, developing intd a squall by afternoon. Entries were good, and comprised mostly local dogs. The orly event which was completed was the iubg head, which was won by* Mr. Fred Wardell’s (Tongaporutu) Speed. Mr. Johnson, of Tarata, secured second and third place with Ins entries. The sheep weight guessing competition was won by Mrs. Badley. SECOND DAY’S EVENTS. The trials were continued yesterday. BeSults : Class 2.—F. Wardell’s Swift and Speed, 46 points, IE. Johuson’s Hemp and Nell, 29 points, 2. Class 3 (huntsway).—A. Mack's Glen, 43 points, 1; K. Black’s Glen, 42 points, 2; S. Erickson’s Rock, 30 points, 3. Class 4 (huntaway, head, bring back, and hold In ring).—A Mack’s Glen, 37 points, i; K. Black's Glen, 34 points, 2; S. Erickson’s Rock, 28 points, 3. Special prizes.—Mr. B. Lett’s Cup, A. Mack’s Glen; the late B. T. Bailey’s Cup, A. Mack’s Glen; K. Black’s Cup, F. Wardell’s Swift and Speed; Hawera Cup, F. Wardell's Swift; Pjoi Estate Trophy, F. Wardell’s Swift; W. Avery’s Medal, K.
