RECONSTRUCTING AUSTRIA.
AN OFFER BY THE ALLIES. By Telegraph.—Pres* Assn.—Copyright. London, March 18. In the House of Commons Mr. Austen Chamberlain announced that Great Britain, France, Italy and Japan had informed Austria, that they were prepared to postpone payments due from Austria under the treaty of St Germain, also the payment of the capital and interest on advances since the armistice in order to avert starvation in Austria. The League of Nations will determine what fresh gold advances may be made to Austria, thereupon the four Allies also undertaking at the forthcoming conference at Portorose to help to effect an improvement in the economic conditions at present prejudicing Central Europe. Furthermore they will endeavor to assure Austria of continued increase in its coal supply.—Reuter.
