COST OF LIVING.

A FALL IN BRITAIN. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received March 18, 7.50 p.m. London, March 17. Official figures of the cost of living show a decline of ten points for February. They stood at 141 per cent, above the pre-war figures at March 1, compared with 176 in November, when they reached the maximum. It is calculated the 35 points decline represents 2s 6d in the pound. The reduction is mainly in food prices, but clothes and personal household necessities contribute. The fall considerably affects the wages sliding scale basis. Railwaymen, from April 1, are entitled to 4s less weekly, equivalent to £7,260,000 annually off the national bill—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
