CURIOUS LAW CASE.
ATTORNEY-GENERAL AS PLAINTIFF. MISTAKE IN A PAYMENT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received March 17, 10.55 p.m. London, March 16. A curious point of iaw arose in the King’s Bench division. The Attorney-General sued Colonel Borissov for £5900 paid by mistake in July, 1919, in consequence of the Brititsh Consul at Murmansk telegraphing, in cypher to the Foreign Office telling them to credit Colonel Borissov with four thousand roubles. When the telegram was received it read four hundred thousand roubles, 40 roubles then being worth £l. Colonel Borissov repaid thb Government £4OO, but he said, he could not give the rest, as he had immediately invested £5900 in business. Colonel Borissov gave evidence that he was employed at Messrs. Vickers, and had telegiaphed relatives in Russia to send as much money as possible. The Judge decided that Colonel Boris, sov must have known there had been a mistake, and he gave judgment for the Attorney-General for £s9oo.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
