WAITARA.
HARBOR. BOARD. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Harbor Board was held on Friday. In regard to the pontoon under offer ■to the New Plymouth Harbor Board for £750, it was reported by the secretary that Captain Waller had inspected it. He required the specifications, but they could not be found in, the office of the board. The secretary reported on the bad condition, of the south wall, the piles in some instances being eaten right off. It was resolved that repairs be made. GENERAL. The Waitara Municipal Band visited Inglewood on Sunday last and gave a concert in the domain. A collection produced £4 ss. Superintendent C. Limmer handed in his resignation at the quarterly meeting of the Fire Board, held on Friday last. The brigade have been asked to recommend a successor. Mr. T. Ewens, of the Clifton Druids, is attending the biennial conference of the Grand Lodge in Auckland.
The Waitara School re-opened on Monday last after being closed for a fortnight on account of sickness. The headmaster reported at the school committee meeting on Monday laet that the attendance was 1 better, although it is still very poor. There is still a fair amount of sickness. The attendance on Monday was 208 out of a roll number of 331. Several necessary repairs to the school were authorised. The secretary of the school committee reported that the Education Board could not see its way clear to lino the technical school room as afeked, considering that the main school was large enough without using the technical room for primary classes. He also stated.jlbat as far as he could see the building of the new school was as far off as ever. The chairman and other members regretted' this, as it had been proved to the members of the board that the school was overcrowded. If the board and the department were not prepared to do justice to the cause of education in the district, the best thing would be for the committee to resign in a body as a protest. Golf enthusiasts are endeavoring to get thf golf club in Waitara established again. The recreation ground seems to be an ideal spot. The Clifton Lodge, at its meeting on Monday evening, passed a vote of sympathy to P.G.P. Bro. W. T. Jennings in the loss of his wife, the members' standing. The second of a series of dances under the auspices of the Clifton Rowing Club, to pay expenses for a crew to go to Wanganui Regatta, was held on Tuesday evening, and they were favored with a very fair attendance.
