LONDON MARKETS.

HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLED REPORT. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, March 12, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: — “Meat. —Home killed in small supply. Averages prices are: Beef Is s|d, mutton Is 9d, lamb 2s lAd per lb; chilled beef, moderate supplies at maximum price. Market is affected by large supply ol frozen beef, large proportion being of inferior quality, selling at irregular prices. Prime Argentine ox*, frozen, lid and 7d, but inferior quality about as low as 8d and 6d, hinds*and fores respectively. Zealand be?f, sales and quotations nominal. Imperial Government-owned New Zealand mutton difficult to sell, owing to being heavy weight. Free New Zealand lightweight mutton and lamb selling freely at maximum prices. “Butter.—Position is not changed. English, small supply, average price is £lB 13s per cwt. (3s‘ 4d per lb.) Irish quoted at £l3 10s to £l5 per cwt. (2s 5d to 2s 8d per lb).

“Cheese. —English, scarce and firm at £8 8s to £9 2s per cwt. (Is 6d to Is 7}d per lb.); Canadian, small supply, white £7 14s to £7 18s per cwt. (Is 4£d to Is 4|d per lb); colored .£8 to £8 4s pei- cwt. (Is 5d to Is Gid per lb); New Zealand, white selling freely £7 6s to £7 8s per cwt. (approx. Is 3;}d per lb), but! colored practically cleared, quoted at £7 18s to £8 per cwt. (approx. Is 5d per lb); Australian, white, £7 2s to £7 6s per cwt. (Is 3%d to Is per lb); colored £7 12s to £7 18s per cwt. (Is OAd to Is 4?<l per lb). Final allotments Government cheese being made, Is 4Ad per lb. wholesale, and Is 8d per lb. retail. “Hemp.—Manila market is little steadier, and “J.” grade January-March to March-May shipments now quoted at £3B per ton. New Zealand market continues inactive, with buyers of highpoints afloat at about £42 to £44 per ton, but no sellers at these prices. Spot quoted at £45 per ton. Fair, MarchMay shipment £4O per ton. Quotations nominal.

“Wool.—Bradford trade dull. Very little new business passing in either tops or yarn, and prices are in favor of buyers. Tops, quotations nominal G4’s (merino), 3s lid; 56’s (sjuper halfbred), 2s 7d; 40’s (coarse crossbred) prepared, Is per lb.

“Hops.—Trade still controlled. All English have been released by Controller, and greater part is in the hands of brewers. Control price to growers for this season fixed at an average of £l7 10*/
