THE TARANAKI CLUB.

ERECTION OF A NEW BUILDING. A HANDSOME STRUCTURE. Tenders are now being invited for a new Taranaki Club in New Plymouth, and the building promises to be one of the most attractive and one of the most modern clubs jn New Zealand. A new site has been acquired for the club house, the locality being on the corner of Queen and St. Aubyn Streets, opposite the Terminus Hotel, known an Berry’s cqmer, the at present on the property having been occupied by the late Mr. D. Berry for many years. The plans, as drawn up by Mr. T. LT. Bates, of New Plymouth, provide for a building of one storey to be constructed -in natural brick with a roofing of Marseilles which should give a very attractive and finished appearance. The building will be erected on top of the bank, and this should provide a very fine outlook. The front of the property will be laid out in some plants and general beautifying work, giving the corner an attractive appearance. Special provision is made for future expansion, the construction being intended to conform with the erection of a second storey when desired. The front elevation of the club house will be to Queen Street, and from all windows a splendid sea view will be obtained. A porch in front opens into a very spacious reception room, extending into a lounge. Opening from this are the other main rooms, on the left being the strangers’ room and office, and on the right a roomy reading apartment lighted by casement windows. The reception room is exceptionally big, space being left for a winding staircase in the event of a second storey being added to the building in the future. The chief rooms are tho billiard room (containing three tables) with a big dome to give special lighting effect, the refreshment lounge, and three card rooms. A butler's pantry, and lavatory and bathrooms, will also be included. Space is left for a dining room and kitchen to be proceeded with later.
