M.P.’S SERVICES.
AN INTERESTING RETURN. The Speaker (Sir F. W. Lang) laid on the table of the House of Representatives on Friday a. return showing the length of service of members of Parliament, and, on the motion of the Prime Minister, it was ordered to be printed. On his retirement, Sir James Allen (now High Commissioner. London), was “father” of the House of Representatives, having been elected in 18S7 and served in eleven Parliaments. The Pvt. Hon. W. F. Massey and the Speaker have both served in nine Parliaments, and were first elected in ’894 Sir W. H. Herries, first elected in 1897, has served in eight Parliaments; as also has Dr. Newman, first elected in 1884 but Dr Newman’s Parliamentary career has been a broken one. Sir R. H. Rhodes, the Hon. J. A. Hanan, and Mr. T. M. Wilford, all first elected in 1900, have served in six Parliaments; and so has Mr. T. K. Sidey, first elected ip 1902. Messrs. F. Mander, G. Witty and W. H. Field have served in six Parliaments; and Messrs. A. S. Malcolm. H. Poland, W. T. Jennings. T. E. Y. Seddon, and the Hon. A. T. Ngata in five.
