ENTERTAINMENTS.

LONDON GAIETY PLAYERS. Tlie opening performance given by the London Gaiety Players, in conjunction with Mr. Wm. Lints, at the Empire Theatre last night, attracted a good attendance, and that the entertainment met with cordial appreciation was evidenced by every item being insistently encored, in somg cases a double recall being answered. The company not only consists of clever and attractive artists, but the dresses and accessories enhanced the success of the entertainers. The strong feature of the players is dancing, ana that alone was worth going some distance to see, especially the Irish and Scotch exhibitions given by Miss Daisy McLillan and the marvellous dances by Misses' Beeban McDonald and White, assisted by Mr. Lints, all of whom earned unstinted applause, while the dancing of the chorus, led by Miss Dora Cooper (who also gave much pleasure with her singing), were j all very attractive items. It is , safe to J say that no such dancing and dazzling J dresses have ever been excelled in New 1 Plymouth. Mr. Lints was a host in him- 1 self in his clever blackboard work with 1 right hand, left hand, both hands, and ’ upside down writing, as well as in an amusing travesty of conjuring, patter work and dancing. The songs contributed by Mr. Leyton and Miss Stone were also much appreciated, and Miss Beeban McDonald’s item of the cockney scene-shifter's version of Hamlet was very meritorious. Except during the interval there were no breaks in the entertainment, which went with a swing right through without a dull moment being experienced. It is a bright, clever company, and all members enter heartily into their work with smiling faces and no little genius, so that at both to-night and to-morrow night there should be a full house, as it is rarely such sparkling entertainers visit the town.
