KAURI GUM INQUIRY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, March 14. At the opening proceedings of the Kauri Gum Commission, Mr. Greville., Crown Lands Commissioner, said that the exports from the industry totalled 20 millions. BUILDING PERMIT. Auckland, March 14. The secretary of the' Auckland Rae-, ing Club explains that a permit for the erection of a new stand was issued last August in addition to permits for certain alterations, and were issued by the City Council. As these were not sufficient the club applied to the Board of Trade and secured a permit on Tuesday which would enable the contractor to finish his work, which was not extensive and did not involve thousands pounds. FREEZING WORKS STOPPAGE. Wairoa, March 14. The Wairoa freezing works is closed temporarily, 50 men being paid off on Saturday and 100 more to-day. The stoppage is due partly to the bad state of the bar, but primarily to the watersiders’ hold-up. The company had 500 tons of coal on the water for Napier, but owing to the latter not working the coal stocks are reserved to keep refrigeration going until supplies arrive. Already this season 73.000 freight , carcases’ allotments have missed owing to the bad state of the bar.
