» OBJECTS OF MODIFICATIONS. TURKEY GIVEN A CHANGE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, March 11. The Turks have been given clearly to understand that the modification's suggested in the Sevres Treaty are conditional upon the Turks furnishin'g definite assurances that they will act honorably. The withdrawal of British troops from Constantinople will not be carried out anti) the Turks demonstrate their honesty. The purpose of the modifications is intended to enable Turkey to re-establish herself as a nation remodelled upon modern European lines. She will be placed on an equal footing in the Dardanelles with other nations and may possibly be offered the presidency of the Straits Commission. The League of Nations will probably appoint a neutral Governor of Smyrna.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn. TURKS TO PROTECT ARMENIANS. London, March 11. M. Briand has returned to Paris. Before leaving he concluded an agreement with the Turks under which the French will immediately evacuate Cilicia, the Turks agreeing to protect Armenians and all minorities. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
