ARMY REDUCTION DEMANDED. REASONABLE SECURITY NECESSARY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyrigfit. Delhi, March 10. Indians’ are strongly attacking expenditure in the Legislative Assembly, demanding a reduction and the Indianisation of the army. Sir Godfrey Fell, Secretary for the Army, in a masterly defence of the Government, stated that it would be the height of criminal folly if in the conditions existing adequate provision was not made for the army. The Commander-in-Gh'ief referred to the Bolshevik menace, the fanatical frontier tribes and internal unrest, and said that if the internal situation cleared up and the non-co-operation agitators ceased to lead astray the ignorant and gullible masses the Assembly would be justified in asking for a reduction in the military expenditure, but a reduc. tion now entailed grave and serious risks. The force provided in the Budget would at least give India a reasonable degree of security.-Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
