The Sunday Express states that negotiations for a truce in Ireland have been re-opened between the Government and Sinn Feiners, the former abandoning the demand for the surrender of arms.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. POLICEMEN FIRED AT. ONE KILLED; TWO WOUNDED. Received March 13, 5.5 p.m. London, March 12. Constables Mclntosh, Crooks, and Cooper were standing outside a Belfast music hall to-night talking to three girls, when five men fired revolvers at them. Crooks was killed and Mclntosh and Cooper was seriously wounded, while a civilian nearby was also wounded. The assailants escaped in the con-fusion.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. MILITARY AMBUSHED. NO CASUALTIES INCURRED. Received March 13, 5.5 p.m. London, March 12. A lorry containing thirty Bedfordshires was ambushed by an entrenched party between Carrick-on-Shannon and Ballinamore, using bombs and rifles. There was fierce fighting for a considerable time, until the ambushera bolted, leaving seven dead in a trench, all wearing the I.R.A. uniform, and a number of rifles. Replying to a question in the House of Commons, Sir Hamar Greenwood (Chief Secretary for Ireland) said there were 2193 resignations and 226 dismissals from the Royal Irish Constabulary during the preceding twelve months, and 131 resignations and thirty three dismissals from the auxiliary police.—Aus.N.Z.
