Robert Macdonald (53) and James Ford (23), who have been convicted in Australia, were sentenced at the Old Bailey to two years’ hard labor. They lured men to a luxurious flat in Mayfair, rented by a Captain Biggar, who is said to be an Australian millionaire. and there men ,were fleeced, often of £2OO or £3OO nightly playing banker, though the united bank balance of the cardsharpers was only £lO. Biggar, who was an Australian trooper, with an artificial leg, was assisted by a pretty young wife. Biggar was charged with the others, but he absconded from bail. Ford claimed to be an Australian banker with £3OOO a year. Detectives, after the verdict, stated that Ford recently obtained £lOOO from a man through a confidence trick.
