THE LIBERAL PARTY.

>\’oT IN COMPLETE AGREEMENT. ONE MEMBER’S PROTEST. (By Wire.—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. Some members of the House do not *agree with the present day interpretation given to the term “Liberal Party,” and Mr. R. McCallum (Wairau) is one ®f thess Craving the indulgence of the House to-day he drew attention to a paragraph which had appeared in the Press headed * ; The Liberal Caucus,” and he read the paragraph, which said that a caucus of the Liberal Party had been held in the room of the Leader of’ the Opposition (Mr. Wilford) and that ajl members of the party were present or accounted for. He claimed to be a Liberal, but he was not at any meeting, and had not heard of any meeting. The gentleman mentioned was not the Leader of the Liberal Party. “He is the leader,” Mr. McCallum continued, “of a small coterie of people ■with whom I have nothing to do. I want to protest against this sort of thing. It was irregular and presumptuous on his part to furnish this paragraph to a public paper. I will not be associated with that particular coterie.” Mr. Wilford also craved the indulgence of the House to make a statement. “I furnished that report,” he said, “and it only referred to members of the Liberal Party led by me.” (Hear, hear). Mr. McCallum rose to say something .further, but sat down when members protested.
