TARANAKI SHOW.

PEOPLE'S DAY. \ A RECORD ATTENDANCE, AWARDS AND COMPETITIONS. There was a record attendance and fine weather yesterday for People’s Day at the Taranaki Agricultural Society’s Show at Waiwakaiho, a large crowd attending from town and country. The scene around the ringside when the grand parade was taking place was a very animated one, the sloping banks being crowded. During the afternoon the Citizens’ Band gave a bright programme of music.

The parade was a very fine one, and the marshalling was’ admirably carried out by Mr. L. A. Nolan. A special feature this year was provided by some magnificent fat cattle, giving an idea of what Taranaki is capable of in the grazing line. In dairy cattle it is questionable if a finer display could be made anywhere. Each section was headed by magnificent sires, alt champions and prize winners, and then followed the females in the same order, viz., Shorthorn, Friesian, Ayrshire and Jersey, the latter predominating. Tn all about 100 cattle were paraded. Then followed draught horses, carts and gigs, light harness hacks, and poni?s, the whole making a very imposing spectacle When drawn up in front of the stand. Judging of the various horse events had been proceeded with expeditiously during the morning, and was completed by the time of the parade. After that the jumping competitions engaged the attention of the public, and some splendid jumping was witnessed, especially in the champion jumping competition, tile £5O prize being won by the wellknown Feilding horse Hailstorm. The pony jumping provided considerable amusement. < The ladies, who have done so much to place the society in its present splendid position, again did good work in the catering and soft drinks stalls. They had a very hard time, their takings exceeding all prevails records. Despite the rush, the arrangements worked well, but it was evident from the crush at the doors that a separate exit will have to be provided. The success of the show was contributed to by the work of the president °f the society (Mr. W. B. Grant), who) takes a very keen interest in the society, and who has devoted much time to-the society during'the past few months, especially during the last fStr days. Mr. F. W.
