THE MEMBER FOR TARANAKI.
(To the Editor.) Sir.—l think it is about time the member for Taranaki should do something for his £5OO a year. “Progressive Democrat” is the fancy name he gave himself at election time, but as shown tbe electors, he is the most unprogressive man we ever sent to Parliament. I think I may say that three-fourths of the people who suppbrted him at last election were Protestants, yet he ’’thoi ght fit to vote a?ainst them at that famous division when the sheep were divided from the goats. Not only did te do so, but he made the fatuous remark that the Protestant League was “dangerous.'’ Mr. Smith will find that sectarian bitterness and bigotry are fatal to anyone aiming at a political career. There has been every chance for a man to.prove useful during the last two strenuous years, but we find him only a loquacious disappointment.—l am, etc., W. G. WILSON.
