AMBITIONS OF AMERICA. A TWO POWER STANDARD, •NOT TO MAKE WAR/* By Telegraph.—Preas Assn.—Copyright. Received M arc ‘b 10-50 p.m. New York, March 8. Rear-Admiral Huse, commandant of New York, in a speech, declared that the United States must have a navy equal to the combined sea forces of any other two countries, not to make war but to defend her peace. He inferentially denied the conceivability of any war between the United States and Britain. Rear-Admiral Huse recently made a speech which was interpreted to mean that he saw a possibility of such a conflict. Rear-Admiral Huse pointed out that the fleets of the Allies virtually protected the United States during the last war, but America must not depend on fhem in the next war.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
