It is believed that 806 Chinese were drowned through the wreck of the British steamer “Hong Moh” on Lamock Island, off Swatow; 248 people were rescued. COSTA RTCA WITHDRAWS TROOPS. Washington, March 7. The United States’ caution to Costa Rica has borne fruit quickly, Costa Rica having replied that she has already withdrawn her itroops from Panama territory. ' WAGES FOR PACKING. New York, March 8. Mr. Gompers has cabled to the International Trade • Federation announcing the withdrawal of the American Federation of Labor from all affiliations. THE HEART OF BRUCE. London, March 7. The keenest interest is being taken in Scotland in the discovery of the heart of Robert Bruce during excavations at Melrose Abbey. The newspaper Scotsman argues that traditionally the heart of Bruce should be under the high altar at the east end. It was found, however, in the chapter house at the north-west. Probably the site was changed during the rebuilding. The enclosing casket is conelike and nine inches high. The diameter at the base is five inches. It is considered possible that the silver outer casket was removed at the reinterment when
