DEATH OF A MINER.
WIDOW RECEIVES COMPENSATION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. At the Supreme Court to-day, Mr. Justice Stringer presiding, judgment was entered by consent in an action for £2OOO damages brought by Ella Liddell, a widow, of Karangahake, against* 1 the Rising Sun Gold Mining Company, plaintiff receiving £1250. The statement of claim alleged that plaintiff’s husband, Thomas Liddell, while working in the defendant company’s mine at Karangahake in August last year, was killed as a result of negligence on the part of the defendant company. While denying negligence, the defence admitted that Liddell was killed during blasting operations. Mr. O’Regan intimated that the case had been settled, but that judgment ■ would be entered by consent and the money would be paid to the Public Trustee, the widow to receive one third and the remainder would be apportioned among six children, whose ages ranged from 8 to 21 years.
