CHAR-A-BANC FATALITY.
LADY EXCURSIONIST KILLED. VEHICLE FALLS THROUGH BRIDGE. v By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, March 5. A char-a-banc owned by Shaw, of Titirangi, conveying a load of excursionists to Muriwai Bea<ch, went through a bridge at Henderson. Five passengers were injured, and one, Mrs. Mardell, was removed to the hospital. FEW INJURY. THREE TAKEN TO HOSPITAL. * Auckland, Last Night. As- far as can be ascertained to-day very few of the occupants of the motor ’bus escaped injury. Miss M. W. Wilson, who sustained internal injuries, died in hospital. Her father, C. J. Wilson, had a bone in the leg broken. There are three persons in hospital, viz., W. Shaw (who is suffering from internal injuries and shock), Mrs. Mardyie (broken arm and shock), and Richard Paget (cuts and abrasions). They are reported to be progressing favorably. “No fewer than fifteen of the passengers sustained injuries,” was the statement made by Constable Douglas, when interviewed. The injuries of those not taken to hospital were not of a very serious nature, although in the case of one man, who elected to be taken home instead of going to hospital, a bone in the leg had been fractured. There were a variety of knocks and bruises sustained by other sufferers. When Constable Douglas arrived on the scene about 9.30 a.m. the passengers were lying on the banks of the creek and on the roadside receiving medical attention. Those in the char-a-banc were all either related to each other or were friends, the party having been gathered together for a picnic by the proprietors of the motor car, and they resided in New Lynn or Titirangi.
