Mr. W. Thorpe, of Eltham, left by the Rarawa last night for Auckland on a trip to. America and Europe. He was farewelled by the committee of the Eltham Progress League the previous evening. The Rev. H. B. Goertz, who was recently appointed to the Cure of Souls of the Patea Parochial District, was inducted in his charge last night by the Ven. Archdeacon Reeve, of Wanganui. Mr. Winston Churchill has left London for Cairo, accompanied by MajorGeneral Sir Hugh Trenchard, Chief of the Air Staff, and Colonel Lawrence, who showed great skill in dealing with the Arabs during the Palestine campaign. A London message says there are well-founded rumors that Mr. L. C. Amery (Under-Secretary for the Colonies) will become Parliamentary Financial Secretary to the Admiralty. This is not confirmed, and nothing is settled, but Mr. Amery will remain at the Colonel Office certainly until Mr. Churchill returns from Egypt. Mr. Chalmers, a member of the Auck-r land Hospital Board, who t making a visit to various hospitals in the Dominion, was in New Plymouth yesterday;. During the afternoon Mr. Chalmers was taken over the New Plymouth hospital by the chairman of the board (Mr. M. Fraser), and he expressed admiration of the way in which the institution wan] managed.
