A very good selection of merinos, super Geelong and scoured Queensland sold at full last week’s rates; others were irregular; fine and medium crossbreds and carpet slipes slightly eaier than last week, but more were sold than yesterday. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram dated 26th, from' the High Commissioner for New Zealand’.—“London meat: Chilled beef Is in large supply and is selling at 11 %d to Is per lb hindquarters, and 8d per lb forequarters. Also a large supply of South American frozen beef which is selling at 9d per lb for hindquarters and 6d per lb for forequarters. The result is that leading beef is not being placed on the market and is accumulating. Frozen mutton also is neglected, owing to the large supply of beef available. New Zealand iamb Is in good demand, and last week about 70,600 carcases from America were marketed. It is reported that a New Zealand lamb at Is o£d lb c-lTf. for delivery in March. A small quantity of New Zealand mutton from America' is on the market selling at 8d per lb, mixed parcels, showing sigrA of storage. For home-killed meat, prices are being maintained, beef Is sd, mutton is 9d, lamb 2s Id per lb. DAIRY PRODUCE. Butter. —Irish supplies and prices are irregular. New-made creamery unsalted is up to £lB 15s per cwt. (3s 4d per lb), creamery ex stores varying from £l4 'to £l5 10s per cwt. (2s 6d to 2s 9d per lb). The Government has made no change in the price (viz., £l4 18s 8d per cwt. wholesale and 3s per lb retail). Tl?e Danish price Is- £ll 6s per cwt (2s per lb) f.o.b. The average pt.'.ce of English butter Is £2O 12s per cwt. (3s 8d per lb. There are still supplies of cheese, and the Government price is unchanged,/Is 4%d per lb wh<i and Is 8d per lb retail. (English cheese > "let and scarce at £8 Ss to £9 2s per c wF. (Is 6d to Is 7%d per lb). Canadian supplies are small, white cheese £7 14s to £7 16s per cwt. (approximately ls 4y 2 d per lb), colored £7 18s to £8 per cwt. (approximately Is 5d per lb). New Zealand cheese is in good supply, with easier tendencies, white cheese £7 6s to £# 8s per cwt. (approximately Is 3%d per lb), offiored £7 16s to £7 18s per ciy } t. (approximately Is 4%d per lb). There will be no further arrival Until March 26th, and a reaction in quotations is expected. Government stocks will be cleared early in March. HEMP. Hemp—The Manila heipp market is depressed and declining. are now sellers for November, January to February and April shipments at £4l. The New Zealand market is idle. Nominal quotations are: Spot, high points £45, and fair £44 per ton, afloat £43 and £4l respectively, with probable buyers lof afloat at 20s less. WOOL. The wool sales are proceeding. Competition is a little better all round, and values for better class merinos have slightly improved on the opening rates. A good selection of New Zealand greasy crossbred was offered and the finer quality sold well on the basis of recent rates. Infen% is selling slowly; sliped and scoured also has attracted more attentipn. CASEIN. Casein.—-Present stocks of British are very heavy, and all the producing countries are eager sellers. maraet Is depressed and prices low. Present Quotations for rennet, are good, Austfalian or New Zealand £llO, French £llO to £125, Lactic £BO to £lOO, all per tonvex wharf London.
