Mr/ T. Harle Giles (Conciliation Commissioner), accompanied by Mrs. Giles, returns to Auckland by to-night’s boat. A New York cablegram reports the death of Mr. Chairip, Democratic leader and a former Speaker of Congress. Mr. G. W. Stubbs, formerly agent for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., at Waverley, has been appointed to take charge of their Hawera' branch. Mr. Stubbs has a long and extensive experience in the business of that company. Mr. B. Kent, after 37 years of service as manager of the Alliance Assurance Company for the Auckland and Taranaki provinces, is retiring at the end of June. Mr. Kent’s connection with the company will not be entirely severed, however as it is the intention of the company to appoint him local director. Mr. R. Caughley, manager of the Christchurch branch, has been appointed general manager for New Zealand, and Mr. Wilfred Skegg, assistant manager of the Wellington branch, manager for Auckland.
