REDUCTION IN TAXATION.

PRIME MINISTER HOPEFUL TOO SOON FOR DETAILS. The Prime Minister stated to a Wellington Times representative on Wednesday that he expects to be able to reduce taxation in the Dominion the cost of living decreases. There was no doubt, he said, that prices had begun to fall, and he hoped to give relief to the taxpayers when the normal level was reached. Last year’s legislation had provided for a slight increase in taxation, but he could not now say What could be to decrease taxation. It was too soon yet. He was getting the accounts prepared now, as far as. he could, but the difficulty was that the session would begin before- the end of the financial year. He would have to see thjj accounts for the year ending March 31 before he would be in a position to sa£ definitely what could be done; but the income tax for the coming financial year would probably be fixed during the short session commencing" on the 10(h inst.
