NAVAL POLICY:
ATTITUDE OF AMERICA. i K NAVY TO EQUAL OTHERS. NOT CURTAILING BUILDING. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received March 1, 11.30 p.m. New York, Feb. 28. Mr. Denby, the newly appointed Secretary of- the Navy, in the course of a statement at Detroit, said the size of the American Navy is a matter of the gravest importance. He added: “I liflieve the present building programme, with perhaps some alterations suggested by experience and careful thought, should proceed. We are a Power to such an extent that a Navy the equal of any other seems justly and naturally called for. I believe in, and will urge, a strong first line of defence. Primarily, my duty will be to help to keep the Navy and Marine Corps not only ready to fight, but fit to fight and trained to the minute.”
At Lexington, Mr. Harding announced that ex-Senator John W. Weekes had been appointed Minister of War.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.
