EVIDENCE OF TRAGEDY.
SHATTERED BODY FOUND. GELIGNITE SUPPOSED. By Tdegraph.—Press Association. Taihape Last Night. The remains of a man were found on a bank of the Hautapu River, halfway between Waiouru and Hihitahi, in an advanced stage of decomposition, the man probably having been dead about two months. The body is not identifiable, and no one is reported missing. The body is that of an elderly man, grey hair and bald, and it is believed to be a case of suicide The deceased had undressed, leaving his clothes by his side, and the lower part of the body was shattered as though death resulted from an explosion of gelignite. There was a length of spent fuse near the body. The clothing eomp.ised a light grey sports coat, medium grey trousers, dark grey vest, old fawn overcoat, dark grey cap, light watertight boots. In a coat pocket were two plugs of gelignite and two detonators. The inquest was adjourned till March 9.
