As the contract with the Imperial Government runs out on March 31, Dr. Reakes has asked the Dominion Butter Qommittee to meet him at Wellington on March 10 to discuss proposals for the immediate future. GLUT AT FREEZING WORKS. Christchurch, Feb. 26. Killing has stopped at the Kaiapoi freezing works. The actual cause of tlw stoppage is a glut in the freezing room, which it is alleged is due to the go-slow policy of a section of the employees, the object of which is to compel the comipany to reinstate four freezing hands who have been paid off. CARPENTERS LEAVE WORK. Wellington, Feb. 26. About 100 carpenters left work to-day in consequence of the decision of employers to make the standard wage 2s 9d. Many of the men previously received 3s, and some of them appear to have accepted the reduction. Further developments are expected next week. VICTIM OF OMAKA WRECK. Wellington, Feb. 26. The lighthouse-keeper at Pen carrow yesterday noticed an object like a man s body floating off the Head, and informed the police, who found it was a man s body, which was brought to the morgue. Identification was practically impossible owing to the advanced state of decomposition, but it was thought to be the body o-f one of the victims of the Omaka wreck. MATTHEWS TO BE EXAMINED. Ashburton, Feb. 26. The Hon. E. P. Lee, Minister of Justice, states that he has already brought the Matthews case before Cabinet, which decided that Matthews be examined by ' two medical experts.
