WAR ON EMPLOYERS.
AUSTRALIAN MOVEMENT FOR CONCERTED ACTION. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Melbourne, Feb. 24. The Union Conference formed a commonwealth Council of Action, with power to order a cessation of work. All unions are requested to be in readiness to act immediately. The Council’s avowed object is a general strike. The All Unions Conference has ended. The preamble of the decisions reached states that the information of a Commonwealth Council is deemed advisable in order to combat the deliberate challenge by employers to the strongest unions of the Commonwealth. The plan includes the formation of State councils from which shall be drawn a proportion of the members of the Commonwealth Council of Action. Part of the duty of these State councils will be to organise the union Wrces to take charge of and regulate the food supplies necessary for the working class to live. The preamble further states that the employers’ action in launching a campaign agaipst key industries proves that have arranged to deliver a blow against trades unionism which will cripple it for years. This will be accomplish unless the working classes are determined to fight the issue here and n< The preamble adds: “We clearly point out Chat if this fight is entered upon it must not be a 191'7 fiasco, hut a concerted policy of action, knowing that the employing class are eager for the fight.” ” , , Delegates will immediately place the proposals before the unions, and all answers are to be in the hands of the councils before March. — Cable Assn.
