GROCERS’ AWARD.
44-HOUR WEEK REFUSED. 'ARBITRATION COURT’S DECISION.- - By Telegraph.—Press Asidclatlon. Auckland, Last Night. The Arbitration Court refused an application by grocers’ assistants for a reduction of hours to 44, In a memorandum the Court states that as a reduction from 52 hours to 48 came into operation on January 1 only it'was undesirable to order a further reduction until the 48 hours had a fail' trial, and the parties were given an opportunity of conferring fully on the matter. TARANAKI DISPUTE. CONCILIATION COUNCIL TO-MORROW. A request for a forty-four-hour week, with a wage of £5 10s, is the basis of the Taranaki grocers’ assistants’ application for a new award, which will be heard by the Conciliation Council at New Plymouth to-morrow. -At present the wages for journeymen are £4 10s 6d, and the hours per week number 47. The award sought also stipulates for a fortnight’s annual holiday on full pay.
