IMMIGRANTS ARRIVE.

THE ATHENIC’S COMPLEMENT. TEN FOR NEW PLYMOUTH. The liner Athenic, the largest vessel if the Shaw Savill and Albion Line, arrived. at Wellington on Tuesday from Southampton, via the Panama Canal. The steamer left the English port on January 13, and arrived at Wellington at 6.20 a.m., berthing at noon, thus having accomplished the voyage in 40 days. The passage was a peasant and uneventful one, and no rough weather was exnerieneed. Off the east coast she ran into a rather choppy sea. and would have made Wellington harbor some hours earlier had it not Been fo J a strong head wind. Captain Crossland is still in command of the Athenic. The Athenic’s passenger list included 49 first saloon passengers, 112 second saloon, and 136 third-class, a total of 297. Included in these are 97 assisted immigrants. 25 of whom .were nominated by relatives, and 72 of whom are exImperial soldiers and dependents. The numbers for various destinations are as follow: Auckland 86, Napier 13, New Plymouth 10, Wellington 123 Nelson 9, Lyttelton 24, Westport 4, Otago and Southland 25, Melbourne 2. There were several families aboard which have come out to the Dominion to settle. - Amongst tha passengers were a large number of New Zealandtrs who returned from tours abroad.
