TARANAKI LOCAL BODIES.

PROVINCIAL ASSOCIATION FORMED. A meeting of local bodies affiliated to the Taranaki Counties Conference was held at Eltham ‘yesterday, representatives Wing present from the EJr tham. Stratford, Taranaki and Hawera counties and the Waitara, Stratford, Eltham and Hawera boroughs. In theabsence of the chairman (Mr. C. J. Belcher, Eltham County). Mr. J. B. Murdoch, chairman of the Hawera County Council was voted to the chair. Apologies for absence were received from the representatives of the Waimate West, Clifton and Inglewood Counties. j

The Press was excluded from the meeting, but at the conclusion of the business the secretary (Mr. W. J. tram) supplied a brief report of the proceedings. The meeting resolved that a Taranaki Local Bodies’ Association be formed, and that all county councils, borough count cils and town boards be invited to become members. A sub-committee, consisting of Messrs. Belcher, Murdoch and Connett, the Mayors of Stratford, Hawera and' Eltham Boroughs, was set up to draft rules for the association and report to the next meeting. The same committee was appointed to deal with matters of importance arising out of the proposed Main Roads Bill, Mr. W. J. Tristram was appointed secretary of the association pro tem.
