ENTERTAINMENTS.

THE PEOPLE’S. To-night’s new bill presents the screen’s dare-devil, Tom Mix, in his latest play of the west and the open air. '“The Daredevil,” in which all the elements that go to make a first-class western drama of thrills are to be seen. The story is a gripping Western tale of love and intrigue, and enables the inimitable cowboy star to eclipse the excellent sliowing_ made in his first Fox production. “Her Honor the Mayor,” a new TVilliam Fox photoplay in which Miss Eileen Percy appears as a new star in filmdom, will also be shown. As. its title indicates, it is a story of a woman in politics —a screen version of Arline Van Ness-Hines’ stage success. Much interest jin this pieturei is being displayed in t«e motion picture world, because of tile personality of Miss Percy. Her advance fo the front rank of motion picture actresses has been very rapid. She is best known for her clever work recently as leading woman for Fox stars. Her beauty is of the purest Irish type. The story tells how the first woman mayor of a middle western town set out to destroy the corrupt forces that had undermined the town government; and how at the same time she settled her own private problems, including the one great problem tfiat is every-woman’s. EVERYBODY’S. Alice Joyce is seen at her best in the spectacular Drury Lane melodrama, “Thp Sporting Duchess,” adapted to the screen at a cost of 200,000 dollars. The sporting duchess was sporting, but not sporty. Women envied her h'eauty and social position; men begrudged her husband’s possession of her love. Between them they sought her downfall. Although guiltless, she was divorced. Her child was taken from her, her fortune was lost. Then she sacrificed her jewels to bid in “Comet,” the Duke’s thoroughbred, when he was put up at auction. The big, thrilling racing scene is a big part of the story, and a glorious section of the picture. Miss Joyce has had many roles in her glorious screen career, but it is doubtful if any ever equalled that of the Duchess of Desborough in this incomparable production. “The Sporting Duchess” was screened at a packed house at Everybody’s last evening and will be shown again to-night for the last time. Intending patrons would be wise to reserve at Collier’s as there is already a big demand for seats for the final performance.
