There was a full bench of buyers for the 19,000 odd bales catalogued at the second Dunedin wool sale® this morning. Mr. Andrew Todd, chairman of the Wool Brokers’ Association, announced thaT owing to unavoidable circumstances the sale would be postponed till evening. It is understood this statement is explained by the common clause in wool sale conditions which allows the buyer to cancel his purchases if a strike commences or is in progress. N.Z. LOAN & MERCANTILE REPORTS. HAWERA BRANCH. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Hawera Branch, report as follows for the week ending February 19, 1921 : At Kakaramea, on Monday, we quote :& Store pigs (small) 17s, fresh conditioned cows to £4 10s, others to £2 2s, bulls £3 10s to £5, grade Jersey dairy cows (second calvers) £lO 5s to £l6. At Eltham, on Wednesday, wo quote : Lambs 10s to 13s Id, prime fat lambs 26s 3d, cull ewes 6s 9d, forward cows £5 10s to £7 10s, fresh conditioned cows to £4 16s, others to £3, empty heifers £3 17s 6d to £5 ss, bulls £3 to £5 10s.

On Thursday, at Hawera, we had a good yarding of both sheep and cattle. Bidding was fairly brisk at the sheep pens, and although tte prices were low for cattle, vendors in most cases were willing to sell. M’e quote: Fat cows (medium) to £8 ss, forward cows £5 4s, fresh cows £3 15s to £5, others at market value. A line of 2%-3yr steers £6 16s, bulls £3 to £5 12s 6d, Jersey weaner heifers £3, shorn lambs 10s 4d to Ils 6d, woolly ditto 10s 7d to 13s, culls 6s 2d, cull ewes 7s 3d, store pigs 32s 6d to £2 13s, small ditto 20s to 235. FARMERS’ CO-OP. MARKET REPORT. The Farmers’ Co-operative Organisation Society of New Zealand, Ltd., report as follows for the week ending February 19th, 1921: — On Monday we conducted out first sheep fair at Upper Waitotara. in yards kindly lent by the trustees of Peat’s Estate. There was an entry of about 4200 sheep made up of good boned ewes and wethers, also about 200 head of cattle came forward. A good number of buyers were in attendance, and, as vendors had made up their minds to sell, a satisfactory sale resulted, prices comparing very favorably with those ruling outside. M’e had a fair demand for grown bullocks, but young cattle were not asked for. The following were some of the sales:—442 wethers at 22?, 414 do. at' 19s lOd, 600 do. at 19s Cd, 250 do. at 19s, 280 4-year ewes 16s 7d, 229 tlo. good 18s 6d, 157 mixed aged ewes 19s 3d, 170 4-year ewes 15s 6d, 31 3%-year steers from £8 10s to £8 153. On the same day, at Opunake, we had a fairly good yarding. Prices were on about a par with late rates. Fat ewes made to 20s, lambs to 9s, springing heifers to £8 10s, small empty heifers £3, works bulls £3 to £6 17s 6d, best cows £8 to £9, good cows £6 to £7 10s, others £3 to £5, good empty heifers 18months to £5. On Tuesday, at Manaia, the cattle pens were well filled and a clearance was effected at late rates. Prices for store pigs showed a marked improvement. Suckers brought up to £2 3s, lambs to 13s 6d, best ewes £7 10s to £8 Is, others £3 to £5 10s, export bulls £3 to £7, Jersey weaner heifers to £4 6s, small sorts to £3. On the same day, at Stratford, we had a good entry, the majority of which was sold at late rates. On Wednesday, at Inglewood, both sheep and cattle pens were filled. For the former we had a good sale, practically the whole entry finding fresh owners at satisfactory prices. In the cattle pens about 150 3% and 4%-year bullocks came forward. For these there was very little demand, and the majority of the pens were passed In unsold. Two-tooth wethers made to 19s, mixed age small ewes to 17s 9d, good framed 5 and 6-year ewes to 14s 2d, small 2-tooths to 14s 2d, fair lambs shorn to Ils 6d, smaller to Bs, woolly (covered with biddy) to 9s, .best cows to £8 12s 6d, medium £4 to £5 10s, light and small to £3, wellgrown empty heifers to £5, weaner heifers mixed to 355, steers 20s, works bulls £3 to £6. At Auroa on Friday we had a good entry, prices being as follows: —Lambs Ils 7d to 12s Id, bulls £3 10s to £4 10s, good cows to £6, others £3 to £5, steers to £3. On the same day, at Hawera, we conducted our annual sheep fair, when 1350 were yarded. There was a particularly good enquiry for rape lamlbs, and for these prices were fair. Quotations: Fat ewes to 21s, rape w.f. lambs 15s to 16s Id, less conditioned sorts to 12s, culls to 9s fid, 4yr ewes 15s to 16s 7d.
