NEW ZEALAND BRANCH. THE ANNUAL MEETING. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The annual meeting of the New Zealand branch of the Empire Press Union was held to-day. Twenty-two members were present, Sir George Fenwick (chairman) presiding. The following were elected associate members: Messrs. A. Lowrie (Times, Dunedin), W. F. Alexander and J. Ash (Star, Dunedin), Dr. Scholfield (Age, Masterton).

The annual report referred to the second conference of the Union held in Canada last year, in which seven delegates from New Zealand took part. Dr. T. W. Leys (chairman of the New Zealand delegation) had the honorary degree of LL.D, conferred on him by the McGill University, and the report congratulated Dr. Leys on the honor received. During the tour of the Prince of Wales the New Zealand branch of the union extended him cordial greetings, and elicited from the Prince complimentary reference to the New Zealand Press. The report also made reference to the loss by the death .of Messrs. G. H. Weston and W. A. Parkinson. The branch had 54 members. Receipts for the year were £l7O 16s 4d, and the expenditure £llO 9s lid. Sir G. Fenwick, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, delivered an address on the work of the union.

Mr. P. Selig seconded the motion. He spoke in high terms of the way in which the delegates to the Empire Press Conference were treated, both in Canada and London. »

Mr. H. Horton endorsed Mr. Selig’s remarks. He stated that he was informed by Lord Burnham that if an invitation came from Australia the next conference would be held there in 34 years’ time, and in such dase an effort should be made to induce the delegates to visit New Zealand.

Mr. E. A. Jones also expressed his pleasure at the reception the delegates met with.

The report and balance-sheet were adopted.

Sir G. Fenwick was’ re-elected chairman, and the following were elected the committee: Messrs. H. Horton, L. P. Blundell, P. Selig, W. C. Weston, C. W. Earle, J. Coombe, A. McNicol, H. Brett and R. J. Gilmour. Mr. W. Easton was re-elected auditor, and Mr. Dow secretary.
