REPATRIATION.

COMMITTEE REDUCED TO FIVE. LAST MEETING OF FULL COMMITTEE. The final meeting of the New Plymouth Repatriation Committee, as constituted up to the present time, was held last night, there being a full attendance of members with the exception of Mr. T. C. List, from whom an apology for absence was received. In common with all repatriation committees throughout the Dominion the membership of the New Plymouth Committee has now been reduced to five.

Four loans of £75 for the purchase of furniture, authorised by the executive, were confirmed. The action of the executive in recommending for approval two loans of £3OO and £l5O respectively was confirmed, and also the payment of the retained portion of retained subsidies. A halfcost subsidy was granted to a member of the Returned Soldiers’ Association taking a course in book-keeping.

A letter was received from the secretary of the New Plymouth branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association stating that the association felt that they could not let the occasion of this final meeting pass without placing on record their appreciation of the services rendered by the retiring members, and all connected with* 7 the board, to the returned men.

At the conclusion of the business, Mr. C. H. Weston said that the Ministerial Repatriation Board had decided to reduce the personnel of the various committees to five members, but he personally would have preferred that the individual members remained with them. He expressed high appreciation of the efforts of the board members and the secretary, who had done so much to bring repatriation matters to such a successful issue. The actual results attained had shown how carefully the needs of the men had been considered, and the men themselves had recognised their obligations where advances had been made. Mr. Whittle moved, and Mr. Rolands seconded, that the following five members constitute the new committee: — Messrs. C. H. Weston, F. Hartnell, H. R. Cattley, W. J. Chaney and T. Furlong. This motion was carried. A motion of appreciation of the services rendered by the executive, Messrs. C. H. Weston. W. J. Chaney, and T. Furlong, particularly the first named, was passed. The meeting also placed on record a resolution of appreciation of the services of the secretary, Mr. Allen, who had at all times carried out his many duties in a most admirable manner, and proved himself to he a most gapable officer.
