It is held by some motor cyclists that where a spring frame is used it is impossible, unless the footboards are sprung as well, to secure really efficient results. Whilst not fully subscribing to this view, it certainly seems logical to incorporate the parts- upon which the riders’ feet rest, in thq springing system, otherwise as his body rises and falls in sequence with the movements of the sprung members, reliance must be placed upon the elasticity of the nether limbs to afford the means of “adjustment” as the distance between the saddle and the ground varies. In other words, the rider’s joints are compelled to accomodate themselves to the movements of the spring frame, thus allowing for the differences in leg reach as they occur.

The same action of course, takes place with a rigid frame, but only within the limitations of the movements of the saddle- springs, which are relatively small. If the footboards are -sprung and arranged to move in unison with the saddle springing then a more or less uniform length is maintained, the parts rising und tolling teg»th«r.
