Mr. J. R. Gibbons, chief reporter of the Wellington Evening Post, one of the best known journalists in New Zealand, is confined to a Wellington, hospital with a serious illness. Mr. G. A. Kissling, branch manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Kaiapoi, has been transferred to Auckland, where he will take charge of the Newton branch.
The Minister for Education (the Hon. C. J. Parr) last niglrT arrived in Tn vercargill and was the chief speaker at the presentation cf prizes at the Technical College.—Press Association.
A Press Association message from Te A*wamutu states that Mr. Charles James Storey is dead, aged 87. Deceased was one of the pioneer settlers of the Waikato, having resided there since and before the Maori wars.
At last night’s meeting of the New Plymouth Tourist and Expansion League, votes of condolence were passed with tjwo members of the executive, Mr. A. McHardy, who recently lost a son, and Mr. C." H. Burgess, whose brother died en route from the East.
The quarterly report of the Management- Committee of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association states that Messrs F. J. Ohlson, H. R. Cooke, E. W. Griffiths, and H. G. Thomson, all of Auckland, have been appointed to the Appeal Council,-to hold office until 19*23. The East Coast Parliamentary party-arrived-at Gisborne last night. At a civic reception Sir James Carroll was presented with an address and a cheque as the district’s tribute to his Parliamentary work for the pa<st 32 years. In his reply Sir James Carroll said he did not seriously contemplate re-enter-ing political life,
Feeling references were made at Thursday night’s Fire Brigade’s Conference at Inglewood, to the death of the late Superintendent Griffiths, of the Fitzroy and a motion recording the sympathy of the delegates was carried in silence, the members standing. Before the conclusion of the conference, Capt. R. L. Parkin, on behalf of the Fitzroy Brigade, expressed the thanks of the brigade for the many expressions of sympathy.
