THE HORTICULTURAL SHOW.
The near approach of the Horticultural Society’s annual show at New Plymouth once more draws attention to the useful work on which the .Society is engaged. Although the town has not the advantages which it would have possessed had it been laid out in the first instance w? the lines which moders
town-planning experts are endeavoring to have carried out wherever possible, its attractions can be considerably enhanced by means of flowers, shrubs and trees The aim of the 7 Horticultural Society is to stimulate the production of these beautiful products of nature, and to inculcate the desire to attain year by year greater excellence in the products of horticulture. The success which has hitherto attended the Society’s efforts has been very gratifying and there is every reason for expecting that the show to oe held on Thursday next will in every way prove as attractive as its predecessors. Just as in business affairs, so is it in relation to those matters which help to add pleasure to home life—the best is only good enough. It is for the public to back up the efforts of the Society, not only by contributing exhibits but by attendance at the show, thereby giving practical evidence of their appreciation of the Society’s work, and encouraging those who devote their time, labor and experience for the public good. Even though it is a. labor of love, it is certainly. deserving general recognition in the shape of public support and commendation.
