Some figures showing the. advances made to Allied nations by Britain and bv the United States were quoted by the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke, M.P.) at Wellington. Great Britain, said Mr. Luke, had lent her allies £1.850.000,000; the United States had lent £1,984,000,000. The fact that Britain, while making a stupendous war effort of her own, had found nearly as much money for her allies as the United States had found was not generally realised. The United States had lent Britain £860,-000,000 ; France £613,000,600; Italy. £331,000,000 ; Belgium, £70.000.000 ; Russia, £30,000,000 : and Siberia, £6.000.000. Britain had lent France £515,000.000 ; Italy, £455,000,000 ; *Russia, £568,000,000 ;• Belgium, £90,000,000 ; and Siberia, £21,000,000.
