REDUCED STEAMER FARES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyright. S/dney, Feb. 17. Owing to competition rates for steerage passengers from Australian ports to Hongkong have dropped from £2O to £4 10s, with a likelihood of further reductions. ADMISSION OF INDIANS. Melbourne, Feb. 17. Mr. Poynton, Minister for Home Affairs, - explained that Indian tourists and merchants , were conditionally admitted to Australia on production of passports from their Governments certifying to their status. REFUNDS OF DUTY. Sydney, Feb. 17. Cabinet has approved of the refund of the additional duty in every case where excess duty was paid, in accordance with the former departmental practice, on goods in stock and unsold at the date of the High Court judgment. It also decided that no claims would be made -for duty short paid, and no refunds made where duty had been over-paid.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
